Q: What is chicken Manchurian?
A: a dish of chicken dumplings, doused in soy and fried batter, concocted in India.
You won’t find it at the new Gurgaon restaurant Hao Shi Nian Nian ( ‘here’s to the good life’). No chilli chicken, no chicken manchurian, and absolutely no garlic chicken either. Oh, the horror of it. Instead the menu here is strictly, gloriously authentic Sichuan.
Choose from two classy black-and-chrome floors. Or two private rooms. A stunning chandelier on the second floor lights up a stage where you can watch the traditional tea-pouring ceremony: the men pouring the tea out of the long-spouted kettle into delicate tea-cups combine drama with grace.
Start with the sinfully-smooth Crispy Smoked Salmon Fish Rolls, and the ultra-spicy Lamb Brisket with dried chilli and spring onions. And then, team the tenderest Tenderloin with chilli sauce, with steamed rice. Follow that up with the Fried Lobster with red chilli and preserved bean-curd sauce, and the Braised Tiger Prawns with chilli ginger sauce. The Stir-fried Corn with spicy salt is a perfect fit for veggie palates.
Wrap with an unusual, delish papaya ice-cream. It’s definitely one of the good things in life.
2. Hao Shi Nian Nian, is pure authentic Sichuan cuisine Grapevine.in

A new Chinese eatery in Gurgaon, Hao Shi Nian Nian, is pure authentic Sichuan cuisine! Don't expect to find the regular chicken manchurian, chilli chicken or garlic chicken within the pages of their menu- Hao Shi Nian Nian makes sure they serve their customers with authentic Sichuan food at surprisingly not-so-obscene prices!
Every table is served with this strange starter which is essentially crispy peas but its different in the way it tastes and is really good! If you like salmon, or fish in general, you should definitely try out the 'Crispy Smoked Salmon Fish Rolls' as a starter. For your main course, order the Braised Tiger Prawns with Chilli Ginger Sauce and you could also team the ultra tender Tenderloin with Chilli Sauce with some rice, though, personally, I didn't like it much but the others on the table sure did! For desserts, apart from the regular serving of ice-cream and some chocolate cake based dessert, they also have coconut ice-cream, which is surprisingly decent and the even stranger, yet equally nice, papaya ice-cream. The caramel custard was also quite good and a nice way to end a really sumptuous meal!
A meal for two, without alcohol, should cost about Rs. 1000.
Go here for an authentic Sichuan experience- good ambience, GREAT service and a live performance on the top-most floor (at least in the evenings)!
I had heard a lot about this restaurant. It ranged from it being over-priced to “fine dining”, to “bahut hi authentic hai yaar…”.
Well, I finally went there for my birthday lunch, my foster boss and foster colleague and a friend took me out for my birthday. Me being me, I spotted the Table D’Hot menu and spoke to the server about it. For 600 per person, if more than 2 people are at the table, you get -
Cream of Crab Soup
1 Non Veg and 1 Veg Starter (Fish and mushrooms)
2 Main courses (Chicken and Lamb)
1 Fried Rice (Shrimp fried rice)
Dessert (Home-made chocolate ice cream)
So, we decided to go in for this option… except for our vegetarian friend who ordered some Bean curd with mixed fried rice – which was quite yummy…
The deal with the food here is that it is NOT your usual Chinese grub. There is no Chilly Chicken or Manchurian. There are no Crispy Chilly Potatoes! But… there is stir fried chicken with bell peppers and ginger and shitake mushrooms… with hints of balsamic vinegar. There is lamb in the red chilli and garlic paste. There is fried rice that is so delicately fried with beautiful baby shrimp that you stop and breathe in the aromas and even catch notes of fish sauce in there. There is pickled ginger… there is lemon grass to accompany it… fresh baby shallots… button mushrooms going well with shitake… peppers and shredded meats… it’s all quite lovely.
But somehow, the chilli is too much. It burns your lips once the meal is over, and makes your eyes water. Luckily, the ice cream is creamy and smooth and oh so lovely. I think my glass of Gentleman’s Jack, made me love the food more. Or the fact that it was my burrr-day! The meal was good, it was definitely different from Indian Chinese restaurants. Of course it was Indian-ised a little (more frying, more caramelising of onions etc, more spices) but then… who would eat it otherwise? So, an experience worth having… but be ready to pay for it
I give it a rating of 3.6
Ambience – 3.5 (Nice, quiet)
Food – 4
Drinks – 4
Service – 3 (A little slow)
Spend – 2000 + taxes per head (A drink per person, Table D’Hot + Extra appetizers or main course dishes… so you do the math)
That’s all for now… we will review some more interesting lunching options next!
I would surely say this is by far the best Chinese Restaurant in Gurgaon, the chefs are from China and the menu is more extensive compared to China Club and the food more authentic compared to Dinesty and Mainland China. Would rank this as the 2nd best Chinese Place in the NCR after China Kitchen at Hyatt. Must Visit!!!

Wish they would add a menu on this site so that I could get take away from here without having to guess which chinese dish they have on the menu.
They have all of my favorite dishes, tenderloin with broccoli, schewan french beans, hot and sour soup, etc. However, the reason I did not give them more than 3/5 on food is because the flavors are a bit off. It is not the chef would not make it more authentic, I just believe that they are catering more to the indian palet and they know they can get away without being too authentic, as most indian people probably think chinese food is chilli chicken and those hakka noodles.
The seafood is also okay.
The only thing I really liked with the crispy duck! it was off the hook. I wish the dumplings were pork like they are supposed to be rather than "indianized." I wish the tenderloin could be made with broccoli and balck bean sauce rather than spicy sauce. I wish the food was more chinese than indian basically.
worth it for the duck. For indian palets, definetly they will like it as it is made only for them and not for chinese people.
6. Chinese in Gurgaon: Hao Shi Nian Nian : asklaila.com

Don’t let the name scare you away. Hao Shi Nian Nian, the new Chinese restaurant in Gurgaon, is a breath of fresh air amidst the scores of Chinese restaurants in NCR, screaming for attention.
The words “Hao Shi Nian Nian”, in Mandarin, represents a toast to good life and the ambience says it all. The insides are not too brightly lit but the open kitchen, mirrors, plush sofas, Chinese art and low lamps lend a very comfortable air, almost bordering on the exotic. Taking the exotica quotient a notch higher is the occasional tea-pouring ceremony, performed live on stage. While the restaurant is good as a casual dine-out option, we recommend you reserve it for special occasions.
Hao Shi Nian Nian specialises in Sichuan cuisine, though the usual Chinese suspects do figure in the menu. We must add that the chefs here do a good job of dim sums. Try the shrimp dim sums. The skin is translucent and delicately thin and, if we may say so, heavenly! The tangy fish with sesame seeds goes well with their impressive wine list.
In the main course, pork in Sichuan sauce attracts a lot of attention. If pork is not your “plate of food”, try the lamb or vegetables instead. The good thing about this restaurant is that they offer to custom-make your dish, even if it isn’t on the menu. Hao Shi Nian Nian rustles up a few finger-licking desserts as well. Do try the caramel custard here. It might just remind you of Mom’s cooking.
The service at Hao Shi Nian Nian is quick and hospitable, bordering on the solicitous at times, particularly if you happen to walk in on a lean day. On a positive note, they also go out of their way to explain the dishes on the menu, if you are a first timer and need to figure out the tongue-twisting list. The dining experience, on the whole, is value for money.
Celebrate your special occasion with Sichuan spices. You just might like it!
